hard sticking to a diet around the holidays... but as elizabeth cohen explains... you can still eat the treats you want without breaking your healthy habits. eating during the holiday season is all about balance - eating the treats we want, but remembering our good health habits so we don't pack on the pounds. how do we make this happen? registered dietitian dana nahai says start by preparing lighter meals in-between the holiday get togethers. (dana nahai/registere d dietitian) you want to focus on foods that are naturally low in fat and high in fiber like vegetables, whole grains and beans. such as in this dish with brown rice, lentils, butternut squash and parsley. and when you do head to the holiday parties, try not to pile too much on your plate. (dana nahai/registere d dietitian) you don't want to consume more than the typical amount that you would consume at any other sit-down meal. and if you're drinking alcohol, here's a trick to cut down on calories. (dana nahai/registere d dietitian) try refilling your glass with water in- between cocktails.
